For the financial year ending 31 December 2025
Douglas Laing & Co. Ltd (“the Company”) is committed to trading ethically, sourcing responsibly and preventing all forms of modern slavery - including forced labour, child labour and human trafficking - within its operations and supply chain. This statement is made pursuant to section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and sets out the steps the Company has taken during the year to understand and address modern slavery risk.
ORGANISATIONAL STRUCTURE, BUSINESS AND SUPPLY CHAIN
Douglas Laing & Co. Ltd is a family-owned, independent Scotch Whisky producer based in Glasgow. The Company sources raw materials, casks and packaging for the blending, bottling and distribution of its Whisky brands, and works with a range of suppliers, distributors and logistics partners both in the UK and internationally. The Company is guided by a strong sense of family values and business integrity and expects its suppliers and partners to operate to the same standard and to comply with the laws of the jurisdictions in which they trade.
ASSESSMENT OF THE RISK OF MODERN SLAVERY
The Company recognises that modern slavery risk exists to varying degrees across the drinks industry and its supply chain, particularly in respect of agricultural raw materials, packaging, cask sourcing and labour supplied by third parties such as agency staff and contractors. The Company is committed to identifying where this risk is greatest and reducing it to the lowest level practicable.
ACTIONS TAKEN TO ADDRESS RISKS OF MODERN SLAVERY
During the year, the Company has continued to build on its approach to identifying and managing modern slavery risk across its operations and supply chain.
Policies
The Company maintains an Anti-Slavery and Human Trafficking Policy, set out within the Employee Handbook, which confirms that the Company will not tolerate modern slavery in any form, in its own operations or in its supply chain. This is supported by:
• HR policies and processes that ensure employees are treated fairly in respect of pay and benefits, clear written terms of employment, health and safety, working conditions and treatment in the workplace.
• Transparent recruitment practices, including verification of right to work and pre-employment screening for all prospective employees.
• Clear expectations of recruitment agencies and other third parties supplying temporary or agency staff.
• A Whistleblowing Policy, enabling employees to confidentially raise concerns about illegal, dangerous or inappropriate behaviour, including any suspicion of modern slavery.
Due Diligence
The Company expects all suppliers and business partners to operate ethically and legally. Before entering into a new supplier relationship, and periodically thereafter, the Company may carry out due diligence to confirm compliance with labour laws and fair working conditions, ethical recruitment practices and the prohibition of forced, bonded or involuntary labour. Suppliers are expected to demonstrate transparency in their own operations and those of their wider supply chain and the Company reserves the right to terminate a relationship with any supplier or partner found not to meet these standards.
Reporting
Any employee, supplier or other partner with a concern about modern slavery is encouraged to raise it without delay. Concerns are taken seriously, handled confidentially and investigated promptly, with appropriate action taken and no one will be penalised for raising a concern in good faith.
MEASURING EFFECTIVENESS
The Company measures the effectiveness of its approach to modern slavery through the volume and resolution of concerns raised, periodic review of the policies and due diligence processes described above and ongoing assessment of supplier and recruitment practices against the standards set out in this statement. These measures help the Company continually improve its approach and respond to evolving risk.
MEASURES TAKEN TO REMEDIATE MODERN SLAVERY OR LOSS OF INCOME FROM THE MOST VULNERABLE
There have been no identified instances of forced labour, child labour or human trafficking in the Company's operations or supply chain during the year, and no identified or reported instances of loss of income to vulnerable individuals or families resulting from measures taken to eliminate such practices. The Company has therefore not taken any remediation measures during the financial year covered by this statement.
